The technique of making Anju Story Wine is originated in the Three Kingdoms and has been passed down for 1,800 years. According to legend, during the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei led their troops through Qiong River in Anju. When passing through Guanjian, they were deeply attracted by a huge rock shaped like a divine tortoise in the river. The three men climbed on the back of the stone tortoise, feeling at ease, and they asked people to get some wine to add to the fun. When the local people heard that the three men had arrived, they were so happy that they offered twenty jars of wine made for ages to them. Once the three men drank the wine, they were very delighted and praised it as the best wine in the world. When they were half drunk, they came up with an idea to help them have more. So they ordered someone to make a water trough in the turtle stone to draw the water, and put the cup filled with wine into the trough to circulate with the flow. And they set the rule that the one whose side stopped the cup should drink the wine in it. At last, the three men got totally drunk. Later, the landscape was named “Guanjian Splash Cup” to commemorate the scene, and the wine that Liu, Guan, Zhang could not let go of was named “Anju Story Wine”.
