The Temple of Fire God in Anju County was originally where the local Court of Censors was established and operated during Emperor Wanli’s reign in the Ming Dynasty. As Anju suffered from turmoil caused by successive years of war and fire disaster in the late Ming Dynasty, local people reconstructed the original Court of Censors into the Temple of Fire God during Emperor Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty for praying to avoid fire hazard. The main hall of this temple is called the Hall of Fire Progenitor, where there is a caisson ceiling with a curled-up dragon carving. The Southern Fire Master is enshrined in the hall. In the meantime, there are two pillars on which a couplet reads “fire at midday predicts nothing originally, but in the southern sky there is a respectable master”. Outside the hall, the wooden pillars hold a couplet reading “fire gold holding the efficacious charm to call stars back to the moon and the sun, fire wheels shining the God image to constitute a battle array of wind and thunder in the heaven and the earth.”
